Shared note | GARDNERVILLE - Mr. J.M. Cox, 71, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, Oct. 1, 2012. The funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at Freedom Baptist Church, Ayden. Burial will follow at Homestead Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Cox was a native of Lenoir County and following high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was a resident of Gardnerville for over 40 years and retired from NAACO in 2006 with 30 years of service. He was a member of Freedom Baptist Church and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Brenda Kay Cox; two daughters, Tonya Newbern and husband, Mike, of Ayden, Tammy Hapgood and husband, Mike, of Winterville; grandchildren, Brittany, Michael, Jessica, and Joseph; four sisters; and many extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the church.
