James L. Lane Sr., 84, passed away Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006, in a local hospital. Born in Hertford, N.C., he was the son of the late William and Mary Lane. James was a member of Hertford Baptist Church in Hertford. He was a member of American Legion Post 327 in Norfolk. Mr. Lane served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean conflict. He retired from the Naval Air Station Rework Facility after 32 years of dedicated service as an aircraft painter. He leaves behind to cherish his memory two sons, James L. Lane Jr. and his wife Garnett of Chesapeake and Kenneth A. Lane and his wife Sandi of Virginia Beach; a brother, Claude Elson Lane of Tyner, N.C.; six grandchildren and 16 great- grandchildren. A funeral will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Altmeyer Funeral Home in Virginia Beach. The family will remain after the service to receive friends. A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Nixon Family Cemetery, Rocky Hock, N.C. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hertford Baptist Church Building Fund. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.altmeyer.com.
