Chester Stevenson "Steve" Speller, 80, died Sunday, December 5, 2004 at his home. He was born in Bertie County on November 30, 1924 to the late Thomas R. and Annie Leggett Speller and was predeceased by his wife, Virginia Corey Speller. Mr. Speller was retired from the NC Department of Transportation with 40 years of service. He was a member of Siloam Baptist Church and an Army Corps veteran of World War II. Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Siloam Baptist Church by the Rev. Jim Cox and the Rev. Roger Leggett. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery in Williamston. Survivors include his daughters, Donna McGee, Dorinda Nicholson and husband Nick, Beth White and husband Joe, all of Williamston, his sons, Gary Speller and wife Bonnie of Williamston and Mike Speller and wife Karen of Bear Grass, his sisters Elsie Mobley of Williamston, Earle Lee of Merry Hill, Roberta Wagner of Chesapeake, VA and Lena Harry of Morehaven, FL, his brothers, James "Bogie" Speller, and Eugene "Bunk" Speller, both of Windsor, ten grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. The family received friends Tuesday, December 7, 2004 from 7-9 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home and at other times from Mr. Speller's home. |
