She was born June 28, 1918 in Windsor, NC to the late Mary Ellen Asbell and Charles Wesley Mizelle Sr. She graduated from Windsor, NC High School in 1936, graduated from Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing, Charlotte, NC in 1940 and served 28 years as US Army Nurse. She was a member of the Aversboro Road Baptist Church, Garner, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband Truman Lewis King, Sr. and by her stepmother Lucille Corprew Mizelle. Survivors include a sister Ellen M. White of Newport News, VA; a brother Charles W. Mizelle Jr. of Atlanta, GA; two stepsons Donald L. King of Raleigh, NC and Truman L. King Jr. of Venice, FL; and a very special long time friend, Pauline Chiswell of Cary, NC. Graveside services were held Tuesday, August 10 at 11 a.m. in Edgewood Cemetery, Windsor, NC. A celebration of life service was held Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at 2 p.m. in the chapel at Glenaire Retirement Community, Cary, NC. The family received friends Monday, August 9, 2004 from 7-8 p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Rd., Cary, NC In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation or to the Glenaire Foundation, 4000 Glenaire Circle, Cary, NC 27511.
