Richard II moved from North Carolina to Tennessee about 1804 and settled on Leather Wood Creek, 10 miles from Dover, Stewart County, TN (This part of Stewart County later became Houston County).. This land eventually became Fort Donelson. He "had many negroes and was regarded as one of the most prominent families in that part of the state." (ref.
