It appears that James had two children by his first wife Mary and then moved across the state line to Bertie County, {Later Northampton County 1742} , North Carolina where he married his second wife Martha and had five more children. He amassed a large plantation there on Potecasi Creek bordered by Uraha swamp. The earliest land deed records I have found date from 1741 through 1745 where he bought several parcels of land (335 acres) all adjoining each other. Note from Lynn Laster: North Carolina Historical and Genealogical Register, Vol 3:127 [by J. R. B. Hathaway] James Lassiter and wife Mary of Nansemond County, Virginia to James Brown, 150 acres in Bennett Creek; Jan. 18, 1736. Wt: Richard Minshew, William Trevathan. Perquimans
