Johnston Pettigrew was one of the distinguished leaders of the confederacy and his war record; especially his conspicuous bravery at the Battle of Gettysburg is a matter of history. He was never married. Prior to the war between the States he traveled extensively both in America and in Europe, where he studied for several years.
