He served in the military Revolutionary War enlisting on 1 May 1780 [from Place]. Enlisted for a term of 12 months in the "select" militia of Maryland. He served in Captain John Nichols' Co of Col. William Deakin's Regiment (Major Lemuel Deakin and Lieutenant Thomas Nichols were other officers). He was stationed for a period of four months at Georgetown, but saw no action. He was discharged home, but returned to duty again in December 1780. He served again in Colonel Deakin's Maryland Regiment. They were stationed at Frederick, Maryland, guarding about one thousand prisoners. He served in this capacity for four months and was discharged.
