Shared note	In the early 1780's, he was placed under the tutelage of the firm of Panton, Leslie, and Company of Pensacola by his father, there to obtain an education and employment. He returned to the Chickasaw country by 1789 and within six years became a tribal interpreter. From 1814 to 1818, he was employed as United States interpreter to the tribe at a salary of $400 a year
