Dr Fletcher Powell -- Funeral services for Dr Powell, who died at his residence, 1401 Chesapeake Avenue, South Norfolk, on the night of July 4 1932 were conducted at the family residence yesterday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. The Rev. Beecher L Rhodes, pastor of the Berkley Avenue Baptist Church of which the deceased was a member, officiated, and was assisted by the Rev O. D. Poythress, pastor of the South Norfolk Christian Church. Mr. Poythress, P. M. Pritchard and James Meggison sang "The Old Rugged Cross," Mr Meggison sang "Sometime We'll Understand," and Mr Poythress sang "Lay My Head Beneath a Rose." They were accompanied by Mrs B L Rhodes. The flowers were in profusion and beautiful, there being many handsome designs. A double end spray of roses and lilies from the family covered the casket. The attendance was large, there being delegations from Berkley Lodge No 167, A F & A M, which conducted a grave service, and from four other lodges of which the deceased was a member. Pallbearers were W E Walker, Dr Horace G Ashburn, A F Hozier, P. M. Pritchard, Proctor Poole, Dr T B Woods, George Harper, E C Powell, Major Brown, L. Berkley, C E Dunn, G V Mountcastle, George Secrease, H P Lane and C G Wallace. |
