PHILLIP S. WHITE ASKEWVILLE - Phillip Spencer White, 81, of 107 Askewville-Evans Street, died Sunday, February 27, 2005 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital. Mr. White was born in Bertie County on September 30, 1923 to the late Shelton and Henrietta Harden White and was predeceased by a son, Kirt White. He was a member of Askewville Baptist Church and Charity Lodge #5. Phillip was a farmer and for 29 years the owner of Phillip White's Grocery. He served in the Army during World War II. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at Askewville Baptist Church by the Rev. Freddie Harris and the Rev. Frank Stansbury. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery with military rites. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Nellie Johnson White; a daughter, Deborah W. Thomas and her husband, Rodney; a son, Phil White and his wife Phillis, all of Askewville, NC; five grandchildren, Greg White and his wife Bobbi of Askewville, NC, Brian White of Mountain View, CA, Heather White of Greenville, Marcus Thomas and Lance Thomas of Askewville, NC and two great- grandchildren, Colin and Trenton White of Askewville, NC. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at Walker Funeral Home. Memorial gifts may be made to Askewville Fire Department or to the Bertie County Rescue Squad. |
