A large landowner, he spent most of his life in Beaufort County, NC, though Battle reports that General Blount had "removed to the capitol" of Raleigh in the early 1830s (1:352). From 1825 to 1827 he served in the NC House of Commons, and he was a trustee of the University from 1826 until his death. Devoted to the southern cause, he spent his entire fortune supporting the Confederacy. He had a son and a daughter by his first wife, Nancy Haywood, and after her death married Anne Littlejohn (Dictionary of North Carolina Biography 1:183).
