Walter Tyler Powell, 64, of 201 East Ocean View Avenue, died Oct.11,1953 in a Norfolk hospital yesterday at 4:20 pm after a short illness. A native of Ahoskie, NC, he had resided in Norfolk 25 years. He formerly lived in Washington, DC. He was the son of Mrs Harriett Hobbs Powell and the late Fletcher Powell. Mr Powell was a member of St Brides Episcopal Church, Berkley; Kemper Lodge, A F and A M, No 64, of Falls Church, and the Norfolk-Portsmouth Typographical Union, No 32. He was a retired civil service worker. At the time of his death he was associated with Norfolk Newspapers, Inc. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Mrs Dollie Turv is Powell; three daughters, Mrs Robert Fleming, Mrs Earl McGrew and Mrs Wright C Robinson, and two sons, Walter T Powell, Jr and Rodger P Powell, all of Hyattsville, Md; five sisters, Mrs C V Charlton of Elizabeth City, N C, Mrs John Moran, Mrs Frank Spruill and Mrs Frank Gregory, all of Norfol k, and Mrs James T Butt of South Norfolk, and eight grandchildren. The body was removed to the Francis A Gay Funeral Home, South Norfolk. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
