Opal Picklesimer Kline, 99, of Raleigh, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, at the old schoolhouse in Whiteside Cove. A private burial held in the family cemetery in Whiteside Cove. She was born Jan. 26, 1904, to Effie Alley Picklesimer and Henry Barak Picklesimer. Raised in Jackson County under the cliffs of Whiteside Mountain, she graduated from high school and studied at Mary Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing in Raleigh. A 1925 graduate, she was the oldest living nursing graduate of that hospital, which was later bought by Raleigh Community Hospital. She was married to Philip H. Kline from 1929 until his death in 1989. They lived and worked in six states, in addition to Mexico and Pakistan, before retiring back to Whiteside Cove and then the Asheville area. In Raleigh she resided at Sunrise Assisted Living. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her five sisters, Pearl, Ruby, Onyx, Coral Lee and Emerald Gladys; two brothers, Heywood and Louis; one daughter, Phyllis Parks; and two grandsons. Surviving are one brother, Thomas of Weaverville; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Memorials can be made to the charity of ones choice. Bryan-Lee Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. |
