JONES WINSTON-SALEM Bernice Cobb Jones Sept. 07, 1921 Apr. 30, 2012 Bernice C. Jones, 90, of Winston-Salem passed away peacefully on Monday, April 30, 2012 at Arbor Acres Retirement Community. (Mary) Bernice was born in Windsor, NC to the late Dwight L. & Martha Asbell Cobb of Green's Cross Community. She received Nursing Degrees at Duke University and worked as Head Nurse of the Urology Dept. at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC. After marrying Joseph F. Jones and moving to Winston-Salem, Bernice became a mother and homemaker. She was an active member of Centenary United Methodist Church. Bernice was a wonderful cook and collected hundreds of cookbooks and recipes. She also volunteered to prepare meals at the Samaritan Soup Kitchen. She loved to travel with her husband Joe and collected all kinds of rocks as souvenirs. Bernice loved to read, had a feisty wit, and was never afraid of saying what she thought about a situation. She was blessed with a wonderful community of friends at Arbor Acres and will be greatly missed. Bernice Jones is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Joseph F. Jones of Arbor Acres; daughter, Martha Nading and son-in-law Art Nading of Greensboro, NC; son, Joseph Jones, Jr. and daughter-in-law, DiAn Kempf Jones of Charlotte, NC; two grandsons, Henry Nading and Tom Nading. The family would like to extend our thanks to the staff and loving caregivers who assisted or attended to Bernice during her final year at Arbor Acres and particularly those at the Fitzgerald Health Center. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to: Samaritan Ministries, 1243 Patterson Avenue, Winston-Salem, NC 27101; to Centenary United Methodist Church, 646 W. Fifth Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101; or to Arbor Acres, 1240 Arbor Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27104. A memorial service will be held at the Arbor Acres Fellowship Hall on Saturday, May 12 at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends after the service. |
