Court Records of Norfolk County, dated Jan. 30, 1646, state that Richard Exum came into Virginia with John Nansel "by indenture for 3 years. In May, 1650, he and Thomas Godwin received 2 land grants on the south side of the Rappahannock River. In 1668, Thomas Godwin deeded 1/2 of this joint patent to Richard's widow and orphans. Elizabeth chose the upper , westward side of this 1000 acres. |
