WALKERTOWN - Mr. Elwyn B. Thompson, 80, of Walkertown died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, at his home. Mr. Thompson was born Feb. 18, 1924, in Bertie County to William Luther and Beulah Mae Cobb Thompson. He was the owner and manager of grocery stores in both Morehead City and Grifton. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Arlene Smith Thompson of the home; two daughters, Sylvia Bell Bridges and husband Guy of Winston-Salem and Dianna Carter and husband Bob of High Point; a son, Elwyn B. (Tommy) Thompson Jr. and wife Jane S. of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren, Elwyn B. Thompson III, Michael Thompson, Brian Carter, Gayle Carter, Katherine Bell McCorkle and Tim W. Bell; and three great-grandchildren, Matthew McCorkle, Megan McCorkle and Sydney McCorkle. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 7, at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at Bethany Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Harbin officiating. Burial will follow in Love's United Methodist Church Cemetery.
