WILLIAM F. ASKEW POWELLSVILLE - William Fleetwood Askew, 87, of Powellsville, died June 9, 2004 at his residence. Askew was born, July 22, 1916 in Buena Vista, NC, a son of the late William Jesse Askew and Ruth Tayloe Askew. Prior to his retirement, Askew had been employed as a new car service technician with local Ford Dealerships, was a contract mail carrier, a peanut grader with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and a farmer. He was a 1934 graduate of Powellsville High School, a member of Powellsville United Methodist Church, a volunteer fireman with the town of Powellsville, a member of Woodmen of the World and the Scrub Club. He is survived by his wife, Bernice Askew, his daughters, Emily Shinaberry of Richmond, VA and Glenda Basnight of Colerain, NC, his sister, Lucille Freeman of Powellsville, three grandchildren, and three great- grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 12, 2004 at Garrett Funeral Home. |
