NEWPORT NEWS - Charles Frederick 'Fred' Keener, 71, went home to be with the Lord on Oct. 9, 2003. He was a native of Hampton, and a Peninsula resident all of his life. Fred was the owner of Keener's Used Auto Parts since 1961. He was a member of New Covenant Church, and an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Fred was a devoted husband, father, and friend. He enjoyed people and never knew a stranger. He loved to be active and travel. Most of all, he loved the Lord and could share this love in a way that could encourage and uplift others. He was best known for his sense of humor and ability to make others laugh. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jeannette J. Keener; two daughters, Lorie K. Collins and her husband, Keith E. Collins, and Karla J. Keener, all of Newport News; three sisters, Johnnie Gilbert of Graham, N.C., Nora K. Scarborough and Eugenia White, both of Newport News; and two grandchildren, Brittany Collins and Ashleigh Collins. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in New Covenant Church with burial following in Peninsula Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to New Covenant Church Building Fund, 1079 Big Bethel Road, Hampton, VA 23666. |
