Shared note	He was employed. Wagoner by profession. According to legend he drove the first wagon into what is now Macon County. Prior to that, two-wheeled carts had been used. He made trips from Franklin to markets in Augusta, Georgia; Charleston, South Carolina; and Knoxville, Tennessee. Sometimes his teams were led by as many as six horses.
