William Elmo Lane, 85, of 720 Dobbs Street, Hertford, died Monday, March 27, 2006, at Albemarle Hospital. A lifelong resident of Perquimans County, he was the son of the late William Henry and Mary Claude Jones Lane. He retired as Water Department supervisor for the town of Hertford and was a member of Burgess Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Sallie Ayscue Lane; two daughters, Sandra Eakes of Tyner and Claudia Hurdle of Kingsland, Ga.; seven sons, Steve Lane and Jerry Lane, both of Hertford, Ronnie Lane of Walton, Ind., Vernon Lane of Powells Point, Michael Lane of Smithfield, Va., Alton Lane of Tyner and Stanley Lane of Newport News, Va.; two brothers, James Lane of Chesapeake, Va. and Claude Elson Lane of Tyner; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by four sisters, Arnie L. Copeland, Lizzie L. Boyce, Mattie Chesson and Polly Chappell. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Swindell Funeral and Cremation Services. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Cedar Wood Cemetery. Swindell Funeral and Cremation Services is serving the Lane family. |
