ELMA H. PIERCE POWELLSVILLE - Elma Holloman Pierce, 85, died July 2, 2003, at Roanoke Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie. Mrs. Pierce was born Feb. 12, 1918 in Bertie County, NC, the daughter of the late Cling Holloman and Essie Conner Holloman. Her first husband, George T. Jernigan Sr. and her second husband Mack Pierce, and a brother, Bruce Holloman also preceded her in death. She was a lifetime member of Powellsville Baptist Church and had retired for Pinewood Manor in Ahoskie. Survivors include her daughters, Martha Jernigan and husband Don of Tyner, NC., Gail Jernigan and husband, Everette of Colerain, NC., Linda Cartwright and husband, Ray of Belvidere, NC, Judy Mizell and husband Lin of Powellsville; her sons, George T. Jernigan Jr., and wife Sue, Richard H. Jernigan and wife, Julia,, all of Franklin, and Gene W. Jernigan and wife Nancy of Murfreesboro, NC, and Steve Jernigan and wife, Linda of Winton, NC; her brother, J.C. Holloman of Powellsville; and her sister, Faye Hoggard of Chesapeake; her step-children, Jimmy, Joe, and Charlie Mack Pierce and Faye Eure; 20 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Powellsville Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Laprevotte, the Rev. Daryl Davis and the Rev. Preston Jernigan officiating. Burial will follow at Stoney Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home, Aulander, today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at the home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to Powellsville Baptist Church.
