James Calvin Baker, 75, of the 700 block of Ledrew Perry Road, died Aug. 21, 1995, in Chowan Hospital. A native of Bertie County, Mr. Baker was a son of the late James Richard and Bessie Perry Baker and the husband of Dorothy Brooks Baker. He was a retired security guard from the R.J. Reynolds Avoca Farms, a member of Capeharts Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II, where he served with the 998th Field Artillery. Surviving, other than his wife, are a son, Larry Baker of Raleigh; two daughters, Marie Revels of Edenton and Anita Baker of Camden; three sisters, Josephine Newburn of Ahoskie, Gertie Dail of Edenton and Beulah Sary of Merry Hill; a brother, Edwin Baker of Groveville, N.J.; four grandchildren, Woody Woodley, Michelle Woodley, Michael Woodley and Jackie Revels. A funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Capehart's Baptist Church by the Rev. Don Williams. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends at Evans Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today |
